Kitchen Table Tarot - Melissa Cynova

In this one, more is set up as almost equal of information about each arcana and other information. The two sections of the arcana are the fourth, fifth and sixth chapters. The first three go into getting started, like a list of basic decks and spreads like other books. Also, care and keeping your deck and how to take care of yourself as well. The third chapter is about ethics of reading, it is a whole chapter. I have seen this covered in only a paragraph or two but it is something important to talk about. But I am not too sure about a whole chapter. Chapter seven does go into professional reading and about doing it for others and yourself. Chapter eight is a small chapter about when things go wrong. When a person is getting a reading goes a little weird. There is a conclusion, it is not huge it is brief. There is recommended reading. It is easy to get through and is similar to other books if you have read other books.

Tarot For Life and Love

The introduction has little tidbits about tarot. For example doing readings, about spreads, suits and history. Shape of book to me looks like a bookmark – could have been shaped more handheld/ personal size. The description of cards not like other books – not like do the keywords or typical 'what it could mean' in a reading. Interpretations to deal more of what the card means two to three different ways. For the short length the descriptions are well thought out. Interesting background choice for each card – for the major arcana – the card itself, ombre effect of a solid colour. With the minor arcana, the cards are piled onto of each other (multiple of the same card). Spreads with a sample reading after explained. There is no conclusion it just ends.

“Modern Tarot,” Michelle Tea

The book has an introduction, but no conclusion which for some could be put off if you are one for conclusions. It is the first person written for those who like third person writing. The illustrations are done by Amanda Verway and for myself, I did not really like the imagery. For some readers, they may feel the same and would be put off looking at the images. The content itself in the book is good information. After she talks about the card, there is an exercise(s) relating to the card.
If you have read many tarot books, you may not find the information useful. The information at times is repeated and nothing new is put forth. But I was not engaged in her telling/view of the cards and description of them. She gives examples of situations of how you would be that card – example: Justice, if been a victim of a crime, you probably feel tons of righteous anger. The Justice card recommends to move it into activities that are healing for you and for others.

Tarot School Newsletter

For those interested in tarot, I would suggest something that I have been doing for a few years now, as of writing, is being subscribed to the Tarot School's newsletter. It's free, just enter in your email and your subscribed.

Each month you will get a newsletter, except for May when they are getting ready for the Reader's Studio. In each you will find information on one card, a link to a blog to look at, and a few other interesting things to read.

All of the newsletters they have done since 2009 is on the Tarot School's website. So you can do what I did and have a look at each since they started. It is a good start and free source for those interested in tarot without paying online or in person for. Of course like any other business they include information and links about upcoming classes and events.

Mini tarot decks

Mini tarot decks can be very useful in ones practice. Whether you are just a tarot reader or use it in some sort of ritual mini decks can, I believe, just as much impact as regular sized decks. Though the images are sized down it can still be a good deck and be good to do a reading. But if you have the mini deck in a regular size you know what the image is.

Mini decks are easier to carry in ones purse, briefcase, or anything you carry that a regular one will not fit or you do not want in. You can put a card in your wallet, if you do daily draws and want to carry it with you throughout the day. Also, if you are not ready to have other people know you read tarot a mini deck could fit almost anywhere. The size of these decks may be helpful to some because it may be easier to shuffle, but when you are reading for someone they may expect you to read with a regular sized deck – tell them adhead of time when using a small one. Again, the smaller decks are just as great as the regular sized deck.

You can find these decks in different place like a bookstore or online.

a small list of site to get a start looking at.
