Pagan on a Budget

This is a list of my ideas and of ideas I gathered when I typed this in a search engine. The combination of this list is free, items you may already have, or cheap/discounted finds. I am sure I left a few things out but I tried to have as much as I could in this list.

Out in nature - water, sand, rocks, earth, leaves, twigs, seeds, flowers, herbs, shells, feathers (that have fallen off the bird), eggs from hatched baby birds, just be out there – spend time there and breathe it in

Dollar store - candles, candle holders, chimes, garden stepping stones (some have a sun or a sun moon combination), notebooks, pens, markers, pipecleaners, paint and other craft items, seeds, knife, cup, placemat, incense, tray (party asile at dollar tree), wood boxes and mini trays, frames, cards, seasonal items (ex halloween/samhain), organization options, salt, baking soda, organza bags (i found the ones I'm using – light blue colour with the easter stuff), mod podge (some have small containers), matches, chair cushions (for when your sitting in front of your altar), dowels (in craft section, to make broom or wand), some spices, lighters, battery operated candles, fake flowers (some really realistic), epsom salt, mirrors (use them in spells, decorate the altar, for scrying. Place them in windows and use them for protection) – also could be found at craft stores, String (or acrylic yarn). Colored ribbons or strings.

Library - depending on where you live and how big it is. You can borrow the book or sit down in the library and copy the information that you want. There can be a variety of topics you can look into like - tarot, wicca, witchcraft, crafts, gods and goddess, seasonal, cooking, gardening, green living

Thrift stores/antique markets/secondhand stores - trays, cauldrons, knives, cups, books, figurines, frames, mortar and pestle, fabric, seasonal (ex halloween/samhain), art supplies, chair cushions, books,  small tables or little cabinets, string (or acrylic yarn). Colored ribbons or strings. ramekins or little bowls meant for sauces. These make excellent little offering bowls. You can also find large bowls for cheap.

Used books stores - history, fiction, witchraft, wicca, tarot, crystals, afterlife, spirit, seasonal (ex halloween/samhain), cooking, gardening, candle making,

Reuse – candle jars, chair cushions, wooden trays, toliet paper tubes/ any tube, boxes, trivets (i have an pumpkin/autumn one propped up), cups, plates, bowls, candles, candle holders, notebooks, binders, pens, pencils, spices, baking soda, pennies, lock and key you're not using, herbs and other food grown at home (herbs to smudge sticks), salt, mason jars, ramekins or little bowls meant for sauces. These make excellent little offering bowls.

WalMart (if you got one near you) – candles (mainly white pillars – varying sizes, votive and tealights under ten dollars), some incense scents, possibly at least one style of incense holder, candle holders, lights, battery operated candles, placemats, seasonal items, craft items, fake flowers, stationary items, chair cushions, side tables that could be used as an altar, epsom salt, some locations have a small selection of essential oils if you don't want to go to green earth or a health food store. Craft clay can be amazing and cheap. Make votive offerings. Make items for magic work. Check clearance sections, not just at WalMart but at other stores as well. String (or acrylic yarn), knot magic is awesome. Colored ribbons.

At certain place you can find tumbled stones for a dollar each or up to three dollars like green earth and hobby and toy central. Sometimes you can find points that around twelve dollars at green earth but the selection is small. At Michaels in the jewellery section one can find a few crystals for the purpose of making said jewellery for under ten dollars.

There is meditation, for some it is easy and not so easy for others. With a simple search online or even in a book you can find guided meditations to help you start, or bring one in if you have done it before. They can be short or long depending on how long your need or want.

DIY what you can. If you have craft supplies and recyclables lying around you can get crafty. You can make different things from the items you already have. For example if you have pipe cleaners you can make a Brigid's Cross. A wooden tray that you do not use anymore can be used to make a portable altar.

Doodle/draw your own pictures. Write some poems. They do not have to be perfect.

Bond with your familiar. Whether yours is furry or scaly, take some one on one time to reconnect.

Check out a public ritual. There is a possibility that there’s one within 20 miles of you. Sites like Meetup.com and Witchvox can help you find “your people.” With the exception of women’s only groups or other specialty events, most public rituals welcome everyone and are usually free.

Share your knowledge and teach a workshop. Are you uniquely qualified in a particular branch of paganism? Maybe you know how to make brooms, or when it comes to the Nordic gods. Most event organizers are thrilled to have volunteers, and you learn as much, if not more, by teaching than you do taking a class yourself.

Memorize. It could be a song or chant. It could be information on a certain subject like numerology. Small or big, it could happen.

Get a potted plant, get a cheap dowel or paint mixing stick from a home improvement store, and draw your own godpole. (This is basically a pole version of a statue, for those who don’t know.) Put the little mini godpole in with the plant. You can bury small objects in the pot that you want to offer, or pour libations into the pot, and the plant will help with disposal (particularly if you are in the habit of offering fresh water on a daily basis).

Find stones outside. Get some cheap acrylic paint. Decorate your stones to take the place of statues, or elemental symbols if needed.

A word about cheap incense: often these are made with synthetic scents and chemical binding materials (to make it stick to the sawdust) that don’t fare well when burned. Heat changes both, and if you get a headache when burning cheap incense, you might not be smell sensitive, you might be sensitive to the changed bits of chemical that you’re not smelling but inhaling anyways. Be careful with super cheap incense if you have breathing sensitivities, or someone else in your household does. If you get headaches, don’t use that brand anymore.

Brands I Like

So this is a list of the brands that I like. It is not much but it is what I like, and may grow once I try out more brands.

One brand that I like is the Now Foods brand – and the sub brands like Now Solutions. Their cocoa butter and essential oils are really great. The Now Foods company has a lot to offer and a few different areas to offer something in food, supplements, pets and personal beauty. If you are looking for an eco/green choice, this is a brand to look into. But if you are living in Canada you may not find much selection and slight higher prices if you go into a store. More selection online through luckyvitamin.com, but if you could end up paying a lot for shipping. But don't let that discourage you because it is a good brand.

The Method brand has good all-purpose cleaner. This is just one of their products and can be found in both grocery stores and some health food stores. The products are under six dollars and some variety. It is something to have a look at.
Dr Bronner is also another brand like Method and Now that is green/eco friendly. It prides itself on it. I really love it. Their castile soap is so useful and smells amazing. This brand is more on the the personal use side – but the soap can be used for more.

Another is the Recollections Creative Year items. Like their planner, books and other items I can get organized. There is a variety of these planners/books, which can be helpful if you like a slightly larger version or have one to zipper up. I have the planner one where there is that clasp. Even with a small selection, it is a good selection. The binder portions are under thirty dollars and accessories are going to be under twenty dollars. Some of the set ups may not be for those who like to deck out there planner, but it great for if you just need a quick thing to bring along with you and can hold a number of pages.

Yarn wise I like the Bernat Handicrafter Cotton. The colours are really nice and the thickness is just right for me (it is a four thickness). For what I create (Gods Eyes) it is the right size, and while I learn how to crochet it is again the right size. For this brand I like the feeling and the tightness, yet some looseness to it. The colours are great, for me a variety of solid colours and ombres – even a few scented ones.

Three things are stationary items that I find useful. Papermate pens, I find are the better pens that I have used. It is smooth ink and writing. The pen is easy to hold and the ink just comes out easily. Sharpie highlighters, the thinner selections, and Bic highlighters are good ones to have if you are a person who like to have things highlighted. Post it notes, the ones small and thin enough to mark pages. These are just quick enough to post to a page for me to have a look at later.

US Games Inc and Llewellyn are good publications to get tarot cards from. There is a variety of cards from each of them. For example, the hobbit/Tolkien, Waite, crystals, historical, fairy and more. Also, Llewellyn is a great company to get books, calenders and other products from (cards, journals, etc).

keeping organized

Here I am going to write about the things that keep me organized. I like being organized and on top of things.
One thing is the recollections creative year planner from Michaels'. I like how there are different books and stickers to put your information and ideas. The dividers that come with the binder and premade sets are cool but I would like to have more than the top three sections. I have three of these binders – the smaller one, but they came out with a larger size and one with a zipper case/enclosure.
Photo boxes have come in really handy, the ones that I have gotten were only two dollars and fifty cents. These boxes are sturdy and hold more than just photos, like the clasp plastic envelopes from Dollar Tree or Dollarama. Which are also good for sorting and organizing.
Planners keep me organized, I have two on the go and I also do to do lists. Sticky notes are a good thing. At times I can go overboard with them but used well it is fantastic.
Having items organized in binders and written down are great for me. For others it is on their phone and other gadgets. It is somewhat helpful to me but I need that pen to paper.
Certain dividers – whether dollar store, diy or more expensive are a good way to divide and section drawers and desks.

Goals for the Rest of the Year

As I am writing this, it is June and half of 2017 has gone. On YouTube, I have gained about three new subscribers – which I am thankful for, almost 70 people in about five years of YouTube. I have switched over to blogger and gained a few more follows on Instagram. And this is just on my social media pages.

Now, I am going to tell you what my goals for the rest of the year is. Hopefully get as much and more done before this year comes to an end. So my first goals relate to my YouTube channel. By the end of this month I hope to get seventy to seventy five subscribers. And on Instagram sixty to sixty five. So by December I hope that I reach my goal of one hundred subscribers, if not more. I hope to write more blog posts in back up so I upload them to you to read. The same goes for my videos for my channel – which is well on its way. There is a goal to get a better camera and have a better place to record. The weather is getting better in Canada, so hopefully I can do a few outside.

Non-social media related goals is to make plans and a timeline to go to Australia. I will go with my younger sister to work and travel for up to two years. We are working on making more money and saving so we can travel a lot in the future. Also I have complete two thirds of a goal – giving blood three times this year. So far I have done it twice, and I can do my third in August around the time I booked a week of vacation.

I am continuing the goal to read four books every month to get to my thirty book goal for the year – which I will soon reach and surpass. Every month so far but May I have done so. I am doing well because in the first two months I read more than enough to cover up that month. Also I am working on writing a book about King Ludwig II of Bavaria and participating or participate in the three Nanowrimo sessions. Which happen in April, July and the official one in November. You can check them out at www.nanowrimo.org if you want to kick start your writing.

when do you feel most creative?

This post is going to be a quick post, a lot like my other posts.

So what makes me feel most creative? When do I feel it? What about you? When do you feel most creative?

I feel most creative more into the evening and night. I feel more energized to do my posts, gods eyes and so on. To me I feel I can get a lot done in this period of time. I do most of video recording during the day – more natural light. But at times I do record at night. I also read at night so I can finish books, some to record for you and those who just watch my channel.

To get me creative it is helpful ideas, good music and a lit candle and maybe the diffuser going to. Also watching other YouTube videos are helpful as well. Looking into articles of stuff that come to my mind can be helpful into ideas. It can also lead to other ideas to write or talk about. Going to the library and reading books can be helpful to read and record videos. Or to just add information into a writing.

Planners and Stationary Items I Am Loving

Here I am telling you of the planners and stationary items that I am loving. I like writing things down rather than having it in my phone. Yes it would be easier but I like the quick look in my planner to see all my things at once. Again, yes I can do this on my phone.

So, what my go to now is the Recollection Creative Year planner and accessories. I can fill in my own planner and have different little books to go with what I need. Also I find that if you want one or two of the pages out of those books you can easily tear them off from the seam. For me it is easy to personalize.

Stickers and dividers are another great thing to have. They are a great way to remember things, know where you are and divide months or people. Just like highlighters, which are another great thing, you can colour code what you need. For the Recollections planner you cannot put large stickers into it but smaller ones just add some fun to the pages I put into it.

PaperMate InkJoy pens I find to work best for me. They have a few different colours to them, so if your do not want to do the highlighting and sticker thing – coloured pens are a great choice as well. Bic and Sharpie highlighters – the thinner ones, are easy and smooth going highlighters that are my go to now for when I need to highlight work hours, meetings and so on. Colours in both pen and highlighter can be great things to organize you time.

Sticky notes are my friend, especially the smaller, thinner ones. If you watch my YouTube channel you will find out with some of my books. They are a quick way to have a reminder, or quick divide between section or just a quick note. One other thing is white out tape. I do not use the liquid because to me it is messy and takes too long to dry if you need that space quick. White out tape is quick and needs no wait time. You can easily write over it.

I am also liking Leonie Dawsons' life workbook because it can be helpful to see what is going on and what you want to do. To do lists are another thing that is keeping me on track – most of the time. But they do give me an idea of what I need to do for the day, weekend or whatever.

Early Bird or Night Owl?

I have been looking for journal prompts recently because I want to get into writing in a journal, and one of the pdfs that I found was more of blog prompts than journal entries. I somewhat looked over these but one was one that I wanted to do a blog post on: early bird or night owl?

As I am writing this, it is 10:15pm and watching a program called art of war. My mind seems to wake up and thinking weird things, remember what I forgot and what I want to do the next day or plan for the week or whatever. Yet if I need to go out and get things done, I want to get out as early as possible and get it done and go home. In the evening and at night, that is when I get things like this post, reading and other work. I feel more awake at night than I do in the morning. I feel more productive, even when i fall into playing a game on facebook. Also, I feel things fall more into place at night, I am alone – as one can by the amount of “I's” in this document.

The sunset awhile ago, but I always find it beautiful and more of a starting point. One would think that of the sunrise, yes but more for work or to get the stuff I want to get done – going out wise out of the way. At night I can really embrace that I am a person that gets stuff done at night. I am not one to go out and have fun at night, it really it not me. I would rather read fanfiction and work on videos – though some are filmed during the day, natural light and all.

Are you a night owl or early bird?

#selflovestories #selflovesept - Kelly-Ann Maddox

I make god's eyes, it makes me calm and distracts me. I put a lot of joy into these and one day finally push myself into selling them. To me they can bring people joy, protection and whatever colour that was used to make it. To me I have created something good to get my thoughts off the stuff that is in my mind (mainly emotional eating). Slowly I am making small moves to get over this hump. I only had one friend tell me that my gods eyes were cool/ the amount that I made.

Little by little I will sell my gods eyes when I push myself off that cliff.
I also was scared to make a YouTube channel, but I finally did it - I have as of writing this - 51 subscribers and happy for each one. I went to Samisspirit when she was witchotherocks, and she told me that I could/should but there would be trolls out there. I still am dealing with other things but putting myself out there - even if it is doing reviews on YouTube and what I am doing on my blog. I just hope my reviews and information helps people make a decision on what is out there.

Months ago I started lighting a candle everyday as a way to connect myself spiritually and I love it. Also I have switching products to more natural ones (beauty wise) and learning crochet – slowly getting it. Small things to make myself lovely.

Tarot School Newsletter

For those interested in tarot, I would suggest something that I have been doing for a few years now, as of writing, is being subscribed to the Tarot School's newsletter. It's free, just enter in your email and your subscribed.

Each month you will get a newsletter, except for May when they are getting ready for the Reader's Studio. In each you will find information on one card, a link to a blog to look at, and a few other interesting things to read.

All of the newsletters they have done since 2009 is on the Tarot School's website. So you can do what I did and have a look at each since they started. It is a good start and free source for those interested in tarot without paying online or in person for. Of course like any other business they include information and links about upcoming classes and events.

NOW ultrasonic USB Oil Diffuser

I got this diffuser to try it because having that natural scent can be effective and just to give it a try. To me candles will always be number one for me to connect on a spiritual level and to calm me but I wanted to give this a try, I did it for my wax warmer – which doubles as a (jar) candle warmer. It seems that I do not use these as often which is way I got a smaller diffuser.

The down side is that it is USB connected. At the moment, when I use it it is connected to my computer. And if you know anything – water and electronics don't really get along. It is just a basic diffuser just as a tester and to me on the lower end of cost, another point to why I got it.

The essential oils that I put into it work fine. The more you put in the more of the scent you will get. For water, it uses 70 mL and runs up to four hours. To me you don't need to run it for the full four hours or put that much water into it.

from weebly to blogger

Hi, I'm Alexandra.

I have switched from weebly because it seemed to take awhile to view my site and put together posts and so forth. So now I am here on blogger putting out the posts and new ones that I had on there.

Here it is more easier to put out posts. Hopefully I will put out more

Happy readings,
Alex

my channel

Right now I am hovering around thirty subscribers [September 2015] on YouTube and I am grateful. But it seems when I hit above that, that person unsubscribes. To me it hurts because there was something I did for them to do that. But I am staying strong, as much as I can, that the number may increase – even staying at 35 or a mention by someone who has more subscribers.

I was an email that I sent to samisspirit that made me finally open up my channel. I do mainly tarot deck and book reviews. I have a playlist on colours, that can relate to candle workings.

To me I think it is more that I use the webcam on my laptop and recently I have been using a microphone on a headset. I know that my voice on audio is not the greatest but I think that I am trying to get my opinion on a book or deck. I also try to points on who may or may not like the book or deck.

Right now I am not quitting YouTube, I think it is a way for me to say what I think because for me writing it down people who read it may get confused on my point.

Wax melts and warmer

I had got around July 2015 and I love it. It also acts a candle warmer, so it has two functions, I paid 16.99 plus tax. If I were to get them separately I would pay 6.99 plus tax for a candle jar warmer and then the seventeen for a wax warmer so it made sense to me to go the way I went. I have melted left over candle wax into melts, or used already melted Yankee Candle melts into a mold to use later – the scent is still there. Or pour the wax back into the container like the Ashland scents.

I am trying out molds, I have a pumpkin mold that does well and I have been using the squares from the Glade wax melts. Two molds that I have tried had a white residue on the mold and wax, so there was some reaction between the two.

It is also good to melt wax and make new candles, whether it is melts or the last bit of candle.

On my night stand – or what I call my night stand – I have a citrine dish.

What is that? The answer is in the two words.

I have a small pumpkin bakeware dish where I have five of seven citrine crystals. One of those two is on my desk and the other is in a sachet with a worry stone that hangs near my bed. The dish is that so the qualities of the citrine helps me out.

One of the citrines that I was excited to see was the tumbled citrine. Do not get me wrong, I love my other citrines but when I was at the First Star psychic fair it was the first time I saw a tumbled citrine.
